Hello family, thanks for the support and love you have shown us. If you’re new here, we would like to formally introduce ourselves to you and give you an idea of why we made this site.

Back in 2005, a few community members of Soompi got together and started a radio to introduce listeners to Korean music. This radio was known as Soompi Radio and sadly came to its demise due to lack of funds.

In 2009, there was talk amongst the old DJs who wanted to revive Soompi Radio and eventually that was made possible on February 7th. Shortly afterwards, its own website was created to cater to its listeners. Soompi Radio had a bigger vision for its listeners as the site began adding more content. The name of the radio was changed to SRadioClub.

In June 2009, after redefining its visions for the site, OMGKPOP was created. OMGKPOP’s goal is to deliver visitors the best of Korean Pop Culture and Asian Entertainment, with SRadioClub’s goal remaining the same, introducing listeners to the latest and best of Korean music.

When we laid down the foundation for these communities, we set forth an agreement amongst the founding members on what we want this site to be. Those goal agreements were to 1) promote Asian music, 2) give the community a good news source, and 3) to do the best we can to build a home for this awesome sub-culture.

As we started to report celebrity news and the world of Asian entertainment, we got the opportunity to stretch out our interests into Asian American music and issues. We try to bring awareness to both by publishing articles that deal with them from time to time. We also try our best to report stories as accurately and truthfully as much as possible without letting biased opinions get in the way. We feel that the publics right to know the truth is much more important than hastily publishing inaccurate and false information.

Some articles will be opinion based in which we do not expect all of our readers to agree with them. However, please do keep in mind that these articles are the opinions of the individual writer and not the entire staff of the site.

Our writers are told to

• Seek truth and report it (Journalists should be honest, fair and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.)
• Minimize Harm (Ethical journalists treat sources, subjects and colleagues as human beings deserving of respect.)
• Act Independently (Journalists should be free of obligation to any interest other than the public’s right to know.)
• Be Accountable (Journalists are accountable to their readers, listeners, viewers and each other.)

Please note that our writers are for the majority college students. They try their best to follow these guidelines (provided by Society of Professional Journalists).
