2NE1 Reveal Tracklist and Comeback Photos

After the long wait, the tough girls of 2NE1 are finally sharing visual goodies with us and the official tracklist of their debut full-length album, To Anyone.

The official YG-blog recently showed some picture of the girl’s new come back image and they are looking fierce and seem to have something worth the wait. As OMGKPOP reported a while ago, 2NE1 will have three title tracks and the music video for one of them just wrapped yesterday. This tells us that we will be expecting a teaser soon before releasing their album on the 9th of September.

[Exclusive] OMGKPOP Interviews Asian-Canadian Singer Esly

OMGKPOP got to sit down and interview the Asian-Canadian singer Esly, who took home the grand prize at this year’s Kollaboration Toronto with guitarist Stephen.

How did this whole singing career get started for you?

No, I didn’t always want to do this as a career and I think it’s a little early to say, yet, that it is a career but I’ve always been very passionate about music my entire life. In terms of how this all started up, Toronto has been hosting Kollaboration for the past several years. I checked it out with a friend of mine and during the intermission, it ended up having a freestyle vocal competition and I had no idea this kind of thing ever occurred at Kollaboration because I’ve never been there before. So I ran downstairs to do a little audition portion and we just went up and that was it. I hadn’t realized, but in the back DJ Lyon was listening in and I guess it caught his attention. We were already friends… so he proposed that we work on some music together and I thought it was a great idea. That’s really how it all started.

So after that vocal competition, you auditioned to perform at Kollaboration the following year. Can you tell us how that went?

I think it went fantastically well. I did it with a friend of mine, Stephen, and he’s a phenomenal guitarist. We really just did it to have fun because we both love music and we really wanted to share what we can do and our creativity with other people. But we ended up winning “Most Original Artist Performance” or “Most Creative Artist Performance” I can’t remember the exact title.

Thank you! It was SO exciting and we didn’t expect it to really happen because during the performance there was this little mishap and the microphone wasn’t turned on. So in the middle of the performance, I’m freaking out because I don’t hear Stephen’s voice! I’m running up, trying to get this microphone to work and so it finally starts working. I guess you need a little mistake to make the rest of your performance seem awesome hahaha. At the time we were freaking out, but it turned out really well.

How does it feel to go from being a Kollaboration vocal contestant to the grand prize winner in just one year?

For me, it was a little surreal considering that those two years represent the two years that I’ve been living in Toronto. So the first year I get to be part of this vocal competition, which helped me start this amazing music project with my friend. Then in the second year, I get to win Kollaboration with another friend of mine, which was really great. I can’t say I would have ever expected it to turn out this way but Stephen and I worked really hard and we put in a lot of hours and really wanted to showcase the best that we can do. And I guess winning, proves it.

What was the reaction like to your first single, “Unfair”?

I think the reaction was great. We got a lot of support from people who are in the industry and I can’t thank them enough. They really uplifted us and gave us a lot of positive feedback. And to get that positive feedback from people who’ve been in the industry for years and years really is a confidence booster, especially for someone like me who hasn’t really endeavored to do anything big in music. It was really encouraging and you sort of sit down and think “OK, maybe I’m doing something right here. Maybe we’re actually doing something good”. So in that sense, it was a bit better than I actually expected.

Since you are in Toronto Canada, what’s you opinion on Asian-Canadian artists in the music and arts category? Asian-American artists generally have a really strong, supportive community behind them, but do you think that there is a lack of interest or support for Asian-Canadian artists?

I think that Asian-North Americans, let’s say, just recently started infiltrating the media to begin with whether it’s television or the film industry. I think that in Canada especially, it’s rather difficult for artists to really make an impact in that industry, especially the one in the U.S. So ya! I would say it’s difficult for Asian-Canadians or Korean-Canadians to get immediate positive feedback. But I think our time will come! I think it’s just a matter of time.

Are there any artists/musicians whom you want to work with in the future?

To be honest, I haven’t spent that much time thinking about it but I could name off a dozen artists who I think are amazing. When I was growing up I listened to a lot of pop, RnB and I think that naturally comes in the way I sing and express myself through vocals. But who would I want to work with? I guess for the OMGKPOP viewers, it’d be Rain. No, sorry! I take that completely back. If I were to work with any Korean group right now, it’d have to be Big Bang. I am sort of in love with them. As for an American artist, I really like Justin Timberlake.

Introduce us to your latest single and anything new that we should be on a lookout for.

The latest single that we have out is called “Night and Day” and it’s sort of the perfect timing. We wanted it out for the summertime when people want to be out having fun and dancing. So that’s sort of reflected in the song. It’s really exciting! It’s the second single and we hope that people are enjoying it and are going to keep following everything that we do. In terms of things that are coming up, I’m going to be performing at Dundas Square on August 19 for a group called HanVoice. They do a lot of awareness raising for issues surrounding North Korean human rights and refugees and they’re actually hosting the largest international conference on those issues this summer. I’m going to be involved in that by performing at an open concert, which is a public event! 7:30PM… So all you interested Torontonians can swing by. The last update is about an “Unfair” remix that we’ll be releasing soon for all of you avid Esly fans

New Girl Group B.Dolls to Debut

Another girl group is about to born and they are B.Dolls. B.Dolls has of 4 members with an average age of 24. The members are Seung Joo Ha Yeon, Tae Yoon, and Geun Young. They are trained for 1 year. These girls will be promoting a retro genre for their debut song. Their title song is called Disco town.

Taeyang’s Solar solo concert to be streamed live on YouTube!

Sometimes things happen as we never planned and never expected, and in the case of Big Bang’s Taeyang, it is not always a bad thing. It has only been two days since he released his international version of album Solar and people are taking serious notice, even in countries the singer didn’t mean to target.

Appearing on Time.com (see Time article of Hallyu artists,) Taeyang appeared among popular kpop idols which attention drawn to him and other stars such as 2NE1, Big Bang, and Apple girl Kim YeoHee.
His first stunning full length solo album Solar hit iTunes stores on August 25th and the album went No.3 in Japan, No.5 in Canada, No,11 in the U.S., and No.15 in Australia. This is stunning for a Kpop artist as the Korean music market has not broken the mainstream in western countries, but according to Time.com, Solar international is set to be in actual music stores for physical sale in the U.S and Canada by late this year! Amazing news for Taeyang!

But the good news does not stop there for loyal fans of Taeyang, we previously reported that the star would be performing two solo concert dates to finish of Solar promotions, well it has now been revealed that the whole event will be streamed LIVE on YouTube! This will allow overseas fans to watch the event that would have been hard for them to go to. Is this another step towards international domination by YG?

What are Taeyang’s views on promoting in the U.S after fellow YG member Se7en did not succeed so well?
Taeyang is known for his warm smile and humble personality but he seems to be sure that that specific image won’t do so well in America. After seeing that his goatee had been photoshopped out for his album cover he reportedly said, “Call the printer and tell them to change the picture. I want to look a bit tough. In the U.S., like this, they’ll think I’m too nice.”

Regardless, it seems that Kpop is slowly spreading across the world and I personally think within the next 2 years Kpop will become a global phenomenon and when that day comes, we can remember Taeyang was one of the first to lead the charge.
