In this thread talk about anything UCSD related, we can plan meetups, outings, whatever. Complain about your professors, discuss classes, majors, curse the school for being socially dead, pretend like this is a school worth going to, and admit to having Triton Eye.
First off, who else is sick and tired of "Spirit Week/Rally"? Seems like every other week is "Spirit Week", how ironic for a school that doesn't have a football team or a D-IA basketball team.

So...does anyone have an opinion about who I should take for MMW3?
I'm trying to decide between Herbst and Chang...both have their ups and downs...but >.<
I really can't decide *sigh*
Oh! and Triton Eye is DEFINITELY affecting me...
though...maybe that's just me thinking that I have Triton Eye xDD -.-
...there IS no spirit at this school...and it SUCKS!! (since I came from a really spirited high school)

as much as everyone loves chang and as much as I love chang, i have to say Herbst is the best MMW professor ever. His lectures are really interesting and he's a really funny guy. plus MMW 3 and 4 are his specialities so he himself is really interested in the material. He's Awesome! TAKE HIM!
question. whats your name? haha

Yeah, I heard that Herbst is an AWESOME professor. The only thing keeping me from taking him right now is that I heard that his tests are harder...AND his final would be on Wednesday (next quarter). I'm really thinking ahead right now because two of my finals would be on Monday and I have another one on Tuesday. That would mean that I would barely have any time to study for his final.
With Chang, even though his tests are hard, he gives us the study guide...and his final's on Friday. Like I said, they each have their ups and downs. I would rather be done early...but at the same time, I would like to have more time to study. -.-
My schedule would work with either of them (atm), but I won't be registering until next Thursday and that might change. If I take Chang, another con would be that I would have to run from WLH to Ledden (which I still don't know location of...except that it's in Muir). *sigh*

but...which mmw course are you referring to?
i'm going to be registering for MMW3...so his standards might be different for different courses? >.<
how was his final? that's the only thing i'm worried about because i might not have as much time to study for it
thanks for your input btw :DD

Plus, Herbst posts questions and key terms he finds that are important on the class website and its only a couple of specific topics that Herbst himself finds interesting, aka what will be on the midterm/final. Trust me, Herbst > Chang

Hmm...UCSD. Hahaha
Well, out of the UC system, I guess we are known for having our 6 college system. The colleges are all on different parts of campus, have their own general education requirements, and specialize in different things (but that doesn't students majoring in different subjects can't apply there).
The six colleges and their specialties are: Eleanor Roosevelt College (International Studies, also known for our writing program called "Making of the Modern World," which is 6 quarters long as well as for the newest housing on campus), Warren College (Engineering), Revelle College (Biology/Sciences), Muir College (Not really known for a specific major (at least, not for me), but rather for their easy GEs), Marshall College (Also not really sure what their specific major is, but I hear that they focus on law stuff for their writing program, DOC), and Sixth (which is known for the Arts and the old housing xD).
From my experience, UCSD has been very fun...the only problem is, YOU have to be in charge of finding your own social life. It was relatively easy for me because I joined a club and made an effort to go out to lots of events, which brought me into a social circle of more than 50 people...and the thing is, we are ALL close friends. Some people may hang out with other people more, but when we are together, it becomes a really good time. (In case you were wondering, I'm talking about Multi-Asian Student Association (aka MASA) <3)
A lot of people say that UCSD is really socially dead. In some ways, that is true. Lots of people seem to go home on the weekends, but it's not really THAT much. I would say about a quarter or so of people go home, however, since most of the fun on weekends is done OFF campus, it may seem as though more people are gone. >.<
I can't really say anything else, other than the school seems to be lacking school spirit (but then again, I came from a really spirited high school...so...that may just be my opinion). Some people DO seem to make an effort to go out to sporting events, but at the same time, it seems like other people would rather just hang out with friends, or party, or...study >.< Hahaha
Was there anything specific you wanted to know about the school?

omg, my grades this quarter are taking a HUGE dive..
it's making me depressed and i have no idea what to do anymore
i already planned to study and do all my academic crap like that
but...after working so hard on a paper and having my sister tell me that it's good
then getting it back and getting a horrible grade on it...
i seriously just want to give up T.T
i'll have to work my ass off just to get a decent grade in a couple of classes this quarter
and it's pissing me off
furthermore, my responsibilities to my club, dance group, and committee (for FUSION) are taking up a lot of my time as well. *sigh* i don't know
i may be overreacting and everything...but my grades are REALLY important especially because i plan on going to grad school >.<
basically, i'm going to need to get a 3.6+ to get into a decent grad school
that may be possible considering i still have 3.33 years left...but still
i'm majorly freaking out right now, especially since the highest GPA i can receive this quarter (averaged with my first quarter's) is about a 3.3 - 3.4
