On January 30th, 2010, OMGJPOP.COM attended the 3rd edition of the JFest which was held at the Alize in Montreal. JFest is an event that aims to make known the Japanese pop culture to the Canadian and the North American people in general.
A group of Jpop Fans who live in the Montreal area decided to bring Japan to them since it is really far and expensive to travel there. Different Japanese and international partners sponsored the event like Studio Batsu, Youkai Wear, Queens Label, Wings Music, Bitter Sweet Entertainment, and the General Consulate of Japan at Montreal.
The guests were able to experience another side of the land of the rising sun through different style of music and shows. The doors opened around 7:30 PM, but the place was completely crowded from the start til the end of the event at 2 AM. The music started with the Japanese DJ Kaminari and DJ JOKE who mixed all kinds of music from M-Flo to Zankoku no Tenshi of Evangelion. There were even some Japanese hostess who were inviting people for a shiatsu session of 15 min, Japanese nail designs, and many other activities.
Here are some pictures and videos of the past events where you can see through the faces of the guests how much fun they had, most of them were foreign students from Japan or Canadian students who are fans of the J culture and Otaku.
Personally, when I attended the event, I loved the atmosphere that everyone brought. The image that the world had of Japan as a closed and booked country was completely erased inside this event. New York will be the next stop for the JFest so guys make sure to try it at least once! I can guarantee that you’ll never forget it. For now, the date and place are not determined yet but you can find all the information in their website. Of course, we will keep you updated on the time and date of the event.
Currently, the JFest team is trying to promote the event in Japan in order to attract the attention of the Japanese pop industry and let them know that there are a huge number of people who like Japanese pop culture in Canada as well. The fans want to see more Japanese Bands coming to North America, especially in Montreal, because most of them occur in Europe and neglect the fans of Canada.
Anyways, congratulation to the JFest team for their great work to promote the Jpop culture in North America. Like they said at the event, «Together, let's give exposure to Japanese Pop Culture!!! »
